25 ways to Increase your Baby’s Brain Power

Infant development experts say that the first years of a child’s life are the most important for learning, yet it can be difficult to come up with new ways to engage your baby and increase the power of the baby’s brain.

As a mother, I always want the best for my child. Hence, I’m always looking for ways to help my baby grow into a healthy, active, and smart baby. During pregnancy, I used to search for how to improve a baby’s brain development during pregnancy on GoogleAfter doing my fair share of research, I have compiled a list of tried and tested activities to improve brain development in children

Allow these enjoyable—and educational—activities to motivate you.

Help Developing Baby’s Vision

Help-Developing-Babys-Vision
  1. Let your eyes do the talking. Take advantage of the few seconds that your newborn’s eyes are open and connect by looking right into them. He’s working on his memory every time he looks at you. This technique has been proven to strengthen the child-parent relationship.
  2. Stick your tongue out. Studies say that newborns (as young as two days) can copy simple facial motions – smart babies can do it easily, proving that babies possess problem-solving capability at an early age.

Make her laugh by chatting with her!

Make-her-laugh-by-chatting-with-her
  1. Go ahead and blab. Even if all you get is a blank stare, leave small pauses where your infant would normally utter words. She’ll soon pick up on the conversation’s pace and begin filling in the blanks.
  2. Sing a song. Create your verses or learn as many tunes as you can. As research suggests, knowing music rhythms is linked to learning maths.
  3. Give him clues. You’re teaching cause and effect when you say, “I’m going to turn on the light now.” before flipping the switch.
  4. Give her a tickle on her toes. Tickle her all over. In fact, the first step toward developing a sense of humor is to laugh. And games like “Jonny Jonny Yes Papa” (ending by imitating laughter) educate your child to predict events.
  5. Make a funny face. Make your cheeks puff up and let your child touch your nose. When he does, poof! He’ll do it when he’s ready. Pull your ear and then stick out your tongue at him.

Bond Every Chance You Get

Bond-Every-Chance-You-Get
  1. Turn the television off.  Instead, take this time to strengthen your child-parent relationship by interacting and engaging with your baby, which no educational television show can do.
  2. Remember to take a break from it now and again. Spend a few minutes each day on the floor with your baby, without any music, bright lights, or distracting tactics. Smart babies are born curious. They want to explore the things around them. Allow them to go where they want to go and see where they take you.

Take a Walk

Take-a-Walk
  1. Create a play area. Allow your infant to climb and crawl all over you as you lie down on the floor. It’s less expensive than a jungle gym and a lot more enjoyable! You’ll assist her in improving her coordination and problem-solving abilities.
  2. Create a variety of steps. Place sofa cushions, pillows, boxes, or toys on the floor and demonstrate to your infant how to crawl over, under, and around them to improve motor skills that let Increase the baby’s brain power.
  3. Now follow his directions. As your child grows older, he’ll stretch his imagination to see whether you’ll truly do things like make funny noises, crawl backward, or laugh.

Discover New Environments

Discover-New-Environments
  1. Share what you see. Take your baby on a walk in a front carrier, sling, or backpack and describe what you notice — “Look at the cute dog!” or “Did you see the fairy?” — to provide your child with a limitless opportunity to expand his or her vocabulary.
  2. Take a shopping trip. Visit the grocery store when you need a break from your song and dance routine. Make faces, and sounds, and show her colors around to keep your infant entertained.
  3. Switch up the scenery. Place your child’s high chair on the other side of the table. Challenge his memory when it comes to remembering where things are placed during meals.

Play and Be Silly

Play-and-Be-Silly
  1. Surprise her. She’ll be surprised. Blow gently on your baby’s face, arms, or tummy every now and then to please her. Make a pattern with your breaths and observe how she reacts and anticipates them.
  2. Test three-card shuffle skills. Take a couple of empty plastic food containers and place one of your baby’s little toys inside of one of them. Allow him to shuffle the containers and find the prize.
  3. Have a game of peekaboo. Your hide-and-seek games are more than just amusing. Your child learns that objects can vanish and reappear.

Teach Texture

Teach-Texture
  1. Feel your way. Walk around the house with your baby in your arms, and touch his hand to the cool window, some soft laundry, a smooth plant leaf, and other safe objects, labeling items as you go.
  2. Let your child play with her food. When she’s ready, serve foods that vary in texture—including cooked peas, cereal, pasta, or chunks of cantaloupe. She’ll get to practice her pincer grasp and explore her senses.

Teach Language and Counting

Teach-Language-and-Counting
  1. Keep track of everything. Count the number of blocks your child can stack. Alternatively, the number of steps in your home. Or his toes and fingers. Make it a habit to count out loud, and he’ll soon join in.
  2. Take time to read books. Over and over! Scientists discovered that when a narrative is read two or three times in a row, newborns as young as eight months can learn to remember the sequence of words in the story—this is believed to help babies learn a language and develop brain power. So go ahead and read your baby’s favorite bedtime stories for children
  3. Make up tall tales. To make it more fun, substitute her name for the main character in her favorite story.

Toddler Suggestions

Toddler-Suggestions
  1. Have fun in the rain. Splash around in puddles. Sit together in the moist grass. It’s a fascinating, albeit messy, way to learn about wet and dry materials.
  2. Give your child a job. Sorting laundry into darks and whites can be done with the help of small children. Your toddler could even be able to identify which garments are hers.

Conclusion

The importance of parents in babies’ brain development is well-established; there is no second opinion about it. So utilize the above-mentioned activities to help your baby’s brain grow in ways that are fun and enjoyable for both babies and parents. Also, these activities can be a great way to strengthen the child-parent relationship.

5 Easy Yoga Asanas for New Moms

It may not come as a phrase, but yoga is most likely equivalent to how you feel, eat, or breathe. And this urge raises the bar when we enter into parenthood. In particular, mothers who are busy sorting home chores or taking care of the baby hear the alarm when this workload takes a toll on their health. Since it’s a transformation mode for her, realizing that health has taken a back seat goes unnoticed.

While finding a 30-minute time bracket to a quiet place to work out, while Daddy will take care of the baby, is more encouraging. There are some easy yoga asanas (poses) that you can practice with your baby or can make more fun as a family activity.

Surely, you can check with your medical provider if yoga (or the below asanas) is safe for you.

Here’s a list of the five easiest yoga asanas(poses) that can be done daily, all in the comfort of your own home:

1. Balasana (Child’s pose)

Balasana

It is one of the main asanas of yoga. This asana (pose) is a great stress buster and releases tense muscles when you elongate the spine. You may feel tight around the hip area while performing this pose, which is normal. Focus on your breath and bend. Inhale deeply and exhale while bending your hips.

Stay in Balasana for 3-5 minutes and feel your spine from the neck to the lower back. Let your body and mind both fully relax.

Benefits –

  • Calms brain.
  • Relieves stress.
  • Easen up lower back pain.
  • Gives good stretch in the hips and thighs.
  • Increases circulation.

2. Adho Mukha Svanasana (Downward facing dog)

Adho-Mukha-Svanasana

Our feet stand forward, whether it is walking ahead in life or performing tasks, making it a sheer joy to give them real fitness pleasure. Try Adho Mukha Svanasana, by keeping the stomach and face down and the legs the distance of one foot apart, forming the alphabet A. Place your palms next to your chest. Exhale and press your palms down and raise your body upside, which we call dandasana, or high plank.

Further, slowly move your head inwards and adjust your legs position to make an inverted alphabet ‘V’. Slowly straighten your legs and knees. Regular practice and improvising on your shoulders’ flexibility will enable you to touch the crown of your head on the floor. Stay in this asana for a minute (it may start with less than a minute of holding time, but gradually it’ll improve). Bring your body back slowly to rest the same way and lie down on the mat and relax.

Benefits –

  • Generates the lost energy and reduces fatigue.
  • Strengthen legs and ankles and tone them as well.
  • This asana helps in relieving leg pain and stiffness.
  • Constant stretching on the heels may help soften the calcaneal spur, which causes heel pain.
  • Reaching for the crown of your head on the mat relieves shoulder blade stiffness.
  • Arthritis in the shoulder joints is no longer a problem.
  • This posture has the potential to make you feel energized.
  • This asana refreshes the brain cells and stimulates the brain.

3. Uttanasana (Standing forward fold)

Uttanasana

Finding a balance within your body is foremost at any point in time. Start with this simple Standing Forward Fold that can be performed almost anywhere. While you’ve got that precious hour of exercise, this asana can help bring relief to any stress you may have in your spine while you sleep, and it will give a long stretch to your entire backside.

Benefits –

  • Calms your brain and relieves stress.
  • Helps to stimulate the liver and kidneys.
  • Gives your hamstrings, calves, and hips a good stretch.
  • Strengthens thighs and knees.
  • Relieves bloating and improves digestion.
  • Adds relief to menopausal symptoms.
  • Reduces fatigue and anxiety.
  • Relieves headaches and insomnia.

4. Tadasana (Mountain Pose)

Tadasana

Tadasana (Mountain Pose), known as one of the easy asanas for losing weight, gives your body an exceptional stretch against gravity. Not just that, it helps steady your breathing, improves your posture, as well as strengthens your thighs and knees, thus preparing you for another exhausting day. The best part is that it’s the easiest of all to practice.

Benefits –

  • Work best in posture problems. Helps in correcting the tendency to hunch or slouch.
  • May increase height.
  • Improves Breathing.
  • Helps in Weight Loss.
  • Boosts energy levels.
  • Lifts your mood issues.
  • Provides Relief from sciatica.

5. Eka Pada Rajakapot Asana (Half Pigeon Pose)

Eka-Pada-Rajakapot-Asana

This may seem tough being a new mom, but with a few more days added to your beginner yoga workout, you will be all set to perform. This asana can be a challenging pose to get into and hold, but it’s an excellent hip opener and helps find balance in the spine, which needs relaxation post-delivery and a hectic lifestyle.

During this pose, you must focus on your glutes and squeeze your mid-back to avoid any issues that may arise because of loosening muscles. You must be holding this asana correctly. You need to make sure that your hips are level and that no stress is put on your joints.

Benefits –

  • Stimulates the nervous system.
  • Improves circulation in the reproductive system.
  • Provides Deep Stretch to the lower body.
  • A Great Chest Opener.
  • Enhances flexibility and organ functioning.
  • Activates the endocrine system.

While the new role of motherhood will keep you busy and daunting, taking the time to slow down and pause becomes imperative to hold the right balance between your mind and body. It can be alluring to convince yourself that you simply don’t have time for yoga or are not in good physical form, but all of these poses are the easiest yoga asanas that can be done anytime while the baby is sleeping or before he/she wakes up.

With every passing day during your yoga practice, you will feel the immense benefits it bids physically and mentally, which eventually will help you feel your best and bloom rather than waiting for your doom.

7 Food Items In Your Diet To Protect Your Brain

Too many daily chores or doing efforts to strike a balance in work and home life – I get through this now and then, especially after becoming a mother. Things go out of my hands at times. One moment, I find myself in the kitchen and the other moment, sorting my to-do list at the back of my mind. It has been most of the working women’s lives.

That’s common, and we all are aware of it. But, is it that obvious to know that this deteriorates our memory power or skill to multitask with time!?

No question, you are doing a fab job, fighting all through the morning till you go back to bed with a max of the tasks done righteously. But does that make you forget things often? Or may be this leads you to ask why I forget things so often ..

A new Stanford study says, “Doing too many things at the same time — multitasking — reduces working memory.

So let’s face it that if you got to do it, do it more smartly and least believe in any multi-magic.

Talk to a dietician or maybe rescheduling what you eat yourself (if you know!).

Let me help you with this!!

  • Get a personalized diet plan based on the sort of work you do. It has a thumb rule to figure out your ideal weight.
  • Measure your height in centimetres and subtract 100 from it. Now, multiply this number (weight) with 300 to get a rough idea of how many calories you need a day.
  • Plan your diet in a way that you get all these calories from nutritious food while avoiding food loaded with empty calories (such as French fries, cola, or samosas). (well, save a cheat day for you!)

Include these food items in your diet to protect your brain:

A) 2-3 cups of green tea without sugar or milk every day.

a

B) 2-3 types of fresh fruits. Different fruit every other day will get you a variety of nutrients and fibres, preferably blueberries.

b

C) 2-3 dry fruits, like almonds, walnuts, and raisins every day.

c

D) Oily fish, at least twice a week.

d

E) Lots of fresh vegetables and leafy greens, weekly.

e

F) Half a glass of red wine, 3-4 times a week.

f

G) A piece of dark chocolate.

g

A woman requires some of the specific vitamins, minerals, and oxidants while she reaches her 30s or after that. If your food is deficient in these, your brain may suffer.

You may need to rethink on:

  • Minus unnecessary hogging on the laptop screen when your Me Time is pending after a tiresome day.
  • Give yourself at least 30 minutes daily before you sleep – you may read, or listen to music, or do binge watching your long-time pending series and more.
  • On a thinkable note, you can give a thought to analyze which aspects of your lifestyle are working out, where you are going wrong and how you can correct them. Ask yourself whether you are going in the right direction or you need to make a course correction.

I am all ears to listen and guide (if I may).

I would love to read what you feel…!!
